a new home
a letter from our pastor
Dear Friends,
Nearly a year after launching King’s Cross, we formed a Building and Land Committee to address both short- and long-term needs. In the short term, we needed a rental space for our growing congregation and began meeting at The Academy of Classical Christian Studies in May 2021.
For the long term, we sought a permanent home. After exploring several properties in northeast Oklahoma City, we purchased land at 2900 E. Wilshire Blvd. in October 2021 through the generosity of our members. After four years of prayer, research, and planning, we now believe the time has come to build on this property.
As we visited churches, met with architects, and developed plans for a church building of our own, the Building and Land Committee had two guiding principles.
Principle 1: A building is not just utility, it’s discipleship. A church building isn’t just a container for the people of God to worship, learn, and love one another within, but the building performs a shaping work of its own upon us, aiming and directing our hearts.
Principle 2: Our church building ought to connect us. First, the building should connect us to the past. Our church is in the Reformed tradition, a tradition that designed churches to be worshipful (but not worshiped). This approach created beautiful (but modest) churches. Second, the building should connect us to creation. John Calvin called creation the “theater” of God’s glory; we desire a building that keeps us connected to this theater. Third, the building should connectus to heaven. If you know anything about church architecture, you know historic churches (with their steeples, vaulted ceilings, and arched windows) lift your attention heavenward. That’s not an accident. We have always said that the church is a window to heaven, and we believe the church building should say so. Fourth, and finally, the building should connect us with one another.
I’ll elaborate on what we mean by these principles in what follows. For now, know that we are excited for what God has in store for our congregation! Please join us in praying for this important project.
Grace and peace,
Casey Shutt, Lead Pastor

South-facing creek views (that includes patio & fireplace), north-side drop-off
Thoughtful landscaping fosters beautiful interplay between building and God’s creation

an invitation to build
God is calling King’s Cross to build a church home that reflects our theology, fosters community and forms disciples for generations to come. This will be a place where children are baptized, couples married, meals shared, and lives shaped in worship and fellowship.
We’re filled with joy and expectation for what God willl do through his people. May this next chapter reflect unity, generosity, and love for Christ and his church. To make your pledge, click the link below.
